Frequently asked questions

Where do your figures come from?

From the primary sources: the BOE, AEAT's Manual práctico de Renta, the Seguridad Social's own tables, and each comunidad autónoma's published scale. You will find links to the original sources across the site.

How current are the rates? What year do the calculators use?

The current year, by default, and you can pick another one where a tool supports it. Rules are versioned per year, so a 2026 calculation keeps using the 2026 rules after 2027 arrives.

The Seguridad Social simulator gives me a different number. Who is right?

Usually neither, exactly. The official simulator asks for a contribution base and we work out which base your earnings put you in, so the two agree once the same base goes into both. If they still differ, tell us! That is a bug worth knowing about.

My gestor gives me a different number. Who is right?

Your gestor, if it comes to a decision that matters. They know things about you that a form does not ask, and they potentially carry liability. What we can do is show you how a number is built, so you can ask them a sharper question. Every calculation comes with a "show calculation logic" link which you can share. Should the gestor claim there is a mistake in our calculations, please let us know!

What exactly is not included in the calculations?

We completely ignore IVA (and IGIC in Canarias) because those are "zero-sum" taxes for the autónomo: what they pay in IVA they get back from the tax office, what they charge in IVA they have to forward to the tax office. What's also not included is anything that depends on your particular history rather than this year's figures: carried-forward losses, unusual deductions, and whatever your previous years did to your situation.

Do you handle regional (comunidad autónoma) IRPF scales?

Yes. The autonomic half of IRPF uses your region's own scale, and each region's scale is versioned per year, because several of them change their rates in November or December for the year that is already running.

Do you cover the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla?

Yes, including their own IRPF scales.

Do you handle the annual regularización (what happens when my real income differs from my declared bracket)?

Yes. That is what the social security debt tool (coming soon) is for: it takes what you have paid so far against what you are actually earning and estimates what Seguridad Social will ask for, or hand back, when they square it up.

Do your numbers account for deductions I can claim (family, disability, pension plans)?

You can select some of the most important ones in the tax profile: children, other dependants and the personal circumstances that move your mínimo personal y familiar. You may have further more specialized deductions which are not included here.

What happens to my saved calculations when the rates change for a new year?

Nothing. A calculation is saved for the year it was made for and keeps its own rules, so last year's answer stays last year's answer. Run it again against the new year to see what changed.

I found a mistake in a calculation. How do I report it?

Please do, and thank you. Use the contact form, or leave a comment on the tool itself, and say which figures you entered (or share the "show calculation logic" link with us). Anything you report to us will be handled securely and discreetly, based on our privacy policy.
