Autónomo in Spain since 2018, self-employed a decade before that in Germany, and growing up in the middle of a family startup, I've always believed that understanding the fundamentals of pricing, taxation, and the regulations that govern our work is a superpower - even if you leave the day-to-day to an accountant, gestor, or lawyer.

It makes you more resilient in difficult times, and more independent from any single service provider.

For this reason, when I started in Spain, I set out to learn to do my own taxes and all paperwork - despite a huge learning curve and plenty of stress and strands of grey hair. It is not for everyone!

But I eventually got pretty good at it and became a fixture in several Autónomo and resident self-help forums, answering questions and helping others navigate and understand the system better.

Over the years, listening to many distraught autónomos in those forums, I also learned that even those who use a gestor sometimes don't get the quality of service and the information they need.

Now, while there are many fantastic gestors, too, and tax professionals remain an essential part of the system and most autónomos' work setup...

... I built Autónomotools to help every autónomo become a little more independent:

• To think about our own business and pricing decisions based on hard facts we can calculate ourselves.
• To find out what we are actually earning.
• To take the surprise out of the next tax and social security bills.
• To find out whether it's likely to be worth it at all

....and much more! Autónomotools is just getting started. The mission: to provide cool, fun, educational and accurate tools and resources that are affordable for everyone and make life easier for all autónomos - solopreneurs, small businesses, digital nomads, tradespeople and everyone else.

Autónomotools is not a gestoría and is not planning to become one, either. Rather, it aims to be a neutral, helpful companion on your autónomo journey.
